Big Science. Real People. Genuine Passion.
The story behind Just Good Science
Just Good Science was founded in 2022 by Dr Sarah Crick, a Cambridge-trained astronomer and Outstanding-rated physics teacher with a mission to make science genuinely brilliant for every learner. Whether it's a space talk that has a whole school hall buzzing, one-to-one tuition that turns exam anxiety into confidence, or a children's book that sneaks in some astrophysics, we bring the universe to life in ways that stick.
Dr Sarah Crick
Hello, I’m Dr Sarah Crick, the Director and Lead Tutor of Just Good Science Ltd
I grew up in Lancashire, UK, where I completed A-levels in Physics, Mathematics and German. I completed an MPhys in Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology at Lancaster University, for which I achieved a first-class honours. I also won places on two competitive summer placements studying Neutrino Detection and Computational Astrophysics. At Lancaster University, I developed a passion for Stellar Evolution and the peculiar objects that form when stars get too close to each other. I went on to study this topic in depth for my Master's project and my PhD in Astronomy at the University of Cambridge.
During my time at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, I began to really enjoy communicating my research through the Department’s thriving Outreach Programme. I also had the opportunity to create, develop and deliver courses for various Institutions, including the Institute of Continuing Education at the University of Cambridge. In addition to this, I took on students for private tuition in Astronomy, Physics and Mathematics. For full details, please visit my LinkedIn profile.
After completing my PhD, I spent 6 months as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge, then in September 2015 assumed the position of Teacher of Physics at Tormead School, Guildford. I stayed in this post for 6 years, delivering dynamic, high-quality lessons in GCSE Physics, GCSE Astronomy and A-level Physics. I completed a PGCE qualification from the University of Buckingham while working at Tormead. I was awarded a grade of Outstanding for my teaching, and I achieved QTS status. I ran a popular and productive Astronomy Club at Tormead, which I very much enjoyed. Alongside my school work, I took on A-level and GCSE Physics candidates for Private Tuition.
In May 2022, I founded Just Good Science Ltd to focus full-time on my Tuition business. I create bespoke and engaging tuition, courses and resources to inspire and equip the next generation of scientists to make their own discoveries.
Through Just Good Science and its Astronomy department, Mission Astro, Sarah has inspired thousands of learners about space, won grants that have funded her to bring science experiences to classrooms in the South of England, and she has created space products that bring joy!
